ACRS Community Update | June 2026

This month at ACRS brought a mix of regular community support and time invested in our team. Here is a look at what we have been up to, from Sunday church services to team training on restrictive practices and our presence at the Ready Set Connect event. What Life Has Looked Like at ACRS

Sunday Church

Each Sunday, ACRS team members support a number of our participants to attend church services in Darwin.

The support covers transport to and from the service and assistance to participate once there. Community access and spiritual wellbeing are recognised support needs, and regular attendance keeps participants connected to their faith community, maintains their existing social networks, and gives the week a consistent routine. For participants whose care needs might otherwise take up most of their week, protecting time for what matters to them is part of how person-centred support works.

Delivering this on the same day each week is what makes it effective. A routine participants can rely on supports predictability and a sense of belonging, both of which contribute to their overall wellbeing.

Ready Set Connect

The ACRS team attended the Ready Set Connect event in Darwin this month, meeting support coordinators, health professionals, and community members at the ACRS stall.

Sector events give referral partners a direct point of contact and a chance to ask questions about our services before making a referral. For ACRS, it is also a way to stay connected to the Darwin disability sector and understand what coordinators and participants are looking for from a provider.

Team Development

Last week, the ACRS team completed a training session on restrictive practices, delivered by the Restrictive Practices Authorisation Unit at Safe NT.

Restrictive practices are regulated under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards framework to protect the rights of participants, particularly those with complex support needs. The session covered what constitutes a restrictive practice, the authorisation process under NT legislation, and the obligations that apply to registered NDIS providers.

Team member training continues well beyond induction. Sessions like this one keep the team's knowledge current with the regulatory framework and its practical application, so every participant is supported safely, respectfully, and with dignity.
