ACRS Community Update | July 2026

This month at ACRS brought a mix of community outings, recreation, and support that keeps participants connected to the people and places that matter most to them. Here is a look at what we have been up to, from the Darwin Show to backyard sport, local markets, and the ongoing work of supporting participants to stay linked to family and Country. What Life Has Looked Like at ACRS

Darwin Show

A group of participants attended the Darwin Show this month with support from the ACRS team. The Darwin Show is one of the Territory's largest annual community events, drawing people from across Darwin and remote communities for rides, food, animals, performances, and exhibitions. For participants, attendance covers community access and social participation as recognised NDIS support needs. A large, busy public event is also where confidence in community settings builds over time, and regular attendance at events like these is part of how that capacity develops.

Community Outings and active recreation

Participants have been getting out regularly this dry season, including walks along the foreshore at Lee Point and visits to weekend markets around Darwin.

These outings form part of structured community access support. Regular community access maintains social networks, supports routine, and keeps participants engaged with the broader Darwin community. The current dry season in Darwin makes outdoor participation more accessible.

Recreational activity at our SIL homes has also been part of the month, with participants engaging in backyard basketball as part of their daily activity program.

Active recreation chosen by the participant supports physical health, daily routine, energy, and social connection between housemates. Activity planning is part of the support process at each ACRS SIL home.

Staying Connected to Family and Country

For some participants, family does not live close by. Extended family and grandchildren may be based in remote communities across the Territory, and maintaining those connections is a recognised and important part of a participant's support plan.

Our team coordinates these trips from end to end, managing the logistics so participants can return to Country. We supported several participants to make the journey back. Being surrounded by their grandchildren and re-engaging with their culture leaves them grounded and content.

For those with deep ties to remote communities, time with family and Country is central to their identity. Integrating this planning is how individual support at ACRS works.

ACRS Community Services currently has SIL & SDA vacancies available at homes in Wanguri, Wulagi, and Bayview. Each home offers 24/7 support with consistent team members, a structured daily activity program built around each participant's routine and goals.
